Inspired by the paintings of artist John Diamond, M.D., participants will learn how to use painting as a meditation – something they can then share with the whole family!
Participants will learn to paint and draw through spontaneous expression, music and movement, and further have a special opportunity to see some of Dr. Diamond’s paintings. No experience is necessary, just an interest in having fun and sharing your art with another!

About the Teaching Artist:
Melissa Knowles has been involved in art and music her whole life, with qualifications from the UK, Australia and New York. Her work has enhanced dance performances, theatre, as well as art and music projects for adults and children, including those with disabilities and mental health diagnoses.
Her global experiences have allowed her to develop a unique approach to using art therapeutically, based on the work of John Diamond, M.D., with whom she has personally studied with for over fifteen years.
She is currently Dr. Diamond’s Art and Photography Assistant, where she curates, prints and frames his paintings and photographs, alongside coordinating programs and exhibitions to engage people in his work.
Her more recent programs include training teachers in the therapeutic use of art at Kingsborough Community College; convening a student docent program and Youth@Art program at the Greenwich Arts Council; and teaching art classes at the Institute for Music and Health and Silver Hill Hospital.
