+ Call for Art - 2024 Art in the Loft

Arts Mid-Hudson (AMH), in partnership with Millbrook Vineyards & Winery, will once again curate an art exhibit in the loft space above the Winery’s main building. This project, known as Art in the Loft, is a good opportunity for members of Arts Mid-Hudson to display and sell their work. Artworks selected for the Art in the Loft exhibit will be entered into the popular Wine Label Competition.

We invite all AMH member artists to submit work to be juried for inclusion in Art in the Loft. There is no entry fee; however, you must be an AMH member.

+ Call for Artists - 2024 Under 30 Show at ASK

ll works must be wired and ready for hanging at the time of drop off. No saw tooth hanging. All works must be original art only, no copies or reproductions. No wet paint All works must be for sale. ASK does not provide insurance. If desired, arrange for insurance of works of art at your own expense. A particular work may be submitted for an exhibition only once over a 12-month period. There can be no changes to Title, Price or Work after submission. There can be no submissions after the deadline. ASK will coordinate the sale of artworks.* *ASK retains 30% administrative fee from the purchase of each work sold during the duration of the exhibition or as a result of exhibiting at ASK. ASK reserves the right to not display a work of art if it is deemed discriminatory or harmful to our community.

Works can only be dropped off on scheduled drop-off dates. Please remove your works on pick up days as announced. Artwork not picked up within 30 days of last announced pick up day will be considered abandoned, and becomes the property of ASK.

+ Call for Artists - 2024 M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival

Artists from across the United States are invited to apply for spaces at the 2024 M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival at the Memorial Art Gallery. The juried fine arts festival showcases more than 375 artists and will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 7th and 8th.

HOW TO APPLY The online application can be found here. A downloadable application is also available at the M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival website. The application deadline is April 30, 2024. If spaces remain after the deadline, applications will still be accepted, but location requests cannot be guaranteed. ABOUT THE FESTIVAL Rochester's largest and longest-running fine arts festival continues to evolve. Originating as a New York State-only artist festival, Clothesline has expanded in recent years to welcome artists from across the country. It's now the place to experience all-day live entertainment, sample food from some of Rochester's favorite vendors, enjoy free family art activities, visit the museum, and, of course, browse and buy original artwork throughout the grounds.

WAAM Regional: Spirit of Woodstock is a survey of contemporary work by regional artists that explores the continuing legacy of the spiritual, cultural, political and social changes of the 1960s. WAAM welcomes a range of styles and mediums influenced by this landmark era in Woodstock that continues to have a profound impact on artmaking in the region today. Everything from abstract art to socially engaged practices will be considered to the extent that it reflects the boundary-pushing culture of the time. + Call for Proposals for Post Office Park Small Monument Competition - City of Kingston

With funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, Mayor Noble is pleased to announce the launch of a Small Monument Competition to coincide with the 2024 spring/summer construction of the new Post Office Park at Broadway and Grand Street.

The goal of this competition is to gather proposed concepts and identify a winning monument design to be fabricated and permanently installed in the new park. Applicants are asked to provide concepts that pay homage to the memory of the lost post office that once stood on the site but fell victim to urban renewal in 1970. Built between 1904-1908, the post office was a notable limestone and granite structure with a rounded façade and Classical and Beaux Arts design elements.

+ Call for Artists - Putnam History Museum

The Putnam History Museum, with grant support from the Putnam Arts Council and in collaboration with the Southeast Museum, invites artists to contribute to a new exhibition titled “Revolutionary Visions: Women of the Hudson Highlands during the American Revolution.”

“Revolutionary Visions” aims to merge art with regional history by commissioning local artists to create works that breathe new life into the historical narratives of women from different social classes, races, and allegiances during the American Revolutionary War. This exhibition will pair new artworks with historical maps, sketches, paintings, prints, and written interpretations to offer visitors a deeper understanding of women’s roles and the Hudson Valley’s significance during the American Revolution.

The exhibition, set to open October/November 2024, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the reimagining of our shared history through the lens of art, highlighting the influential roles women played during the American Revolution. The exhibition will be on view at the Putnam History Museum in Cold Spring and then the Southeast Museum in Brewster.

Artists’ Selection Process

The PHM & SM are seeking to commission 3-5 artists to produce works that interpret the stories of these women through a contemporary lens. Artists will be assigned a specific woman and story to inspire their work, accompanied by a small packet of historical material for further inspiration. We welcome a variety of interpretations, including, but not limited to portraits, landscapes, buildings, sketches, interpretive pieces, paintings, textiles, pottery, and more.

MONOCHROMATIC

July 20 – September 7, 2024 Juried by Melinda Stickney-Gibson, a well-known Hudson Valley artist and curator

The Olive Free Library Association will be presenting its 7th annual summer group show, MONOCHROMATIC, this year juried by well-known regional artist and curator Melinda Stickney-Gibson. The exhibition will open on Saturday, July 20, 3 – 5 pm and will run through September 7, 2024. All Hudson Valley artists are invited and all genres of art are considered but work must be wall-hung. If you are interested in submitting work to be considered for this show, please read the submission instructions below.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. All artwork should be original (no reproductions) and should fit the theme of the exhibition, “MONOCHROMATIC“. Monochromatic means: containing or using only one color or hue.
  2. All artwork should be no more than 24 inches x 24 inches in size, including frame. All works must be wall hung. Small shelves (to be provided by the artist) for sculptures are acceptable.
  3. The library takes a 30% commission on all sales (the artist will receive the remaining 70% of the sale). All artwork must be for sale.
  4. Send up to 5 jpg or png files (no zip files!) of your work in ONE EMAIL only (please do NOT include the frame in the image if your work is framed, only the artwork itself!) to oflartsubmissions@gmail.com.
  5. Image files should each be named with the artwork’s title only. In the body of the email, please provide details for each of the works, i.e. title, medium, and size (height x width) incl. frame (if framed): eg. Title 1: oil, 5” x 7” Title 2: pastel, 8” x 10” Title 3: pen & ink, 12” x 12”
  6. All artwork must be properly WIRED ready for hanging. Any work not properly wired will be rejected.
  7. All candidates must be 16 years or older.
  8. Please submit your image files by Monday, June 3, 2024 and send to oflartsubmissions@gmail.com.
  9. If accepted, you will be contacted directly by email with all necessary forms for you to fill in and sign. Please submit them with your artwork during drop-off. Intake day is Monday, July 15, 2024.
  10. All artwork has to be dropped off and picked up by the artist or a friend or family member (no mail!)

BAU Gallery’s mission is to exhibit fine art and build a diverse, artistic community. We are an equal opportunity artist-run cooperative with transparent operations and shared responsibilities. Artist-led cooperatives have a rich history in New York and in this spirit BAU has thrived since 2004. With 20 consecutive years of exhibitions we are one of Beacon’s oldest continually operating galleries.

Kingston, New York…Calling all visual artists! Don your creative cap and enter your 11x17 poster design for the 29th Annual Kingston Soapbox Derby! Will you win fame and $500 when your art is chosen for far-reaching exposure throughout the beautiful Hudson Valley?

Your submitted artwork should reflect this unique family event that draws thousands of serious fun lovers to watch wild and wonderful soapbox designs parade down lower Broadway. The festivities conclude with rousing musical performances and prestigious, artist-designed trophy awards at T.R. Gallo Park on the Rondout waterfront.

“The fundamental Derby rationale is indeed serious fun, as it unites professional artists, families, and community organizations in the most inventive, rollicking display of kinetic sculpture to be found anywhere in the Hudson Valley region,” says Bob Johnson, longtime participant and Director of Graphics and Printing at SUNY Ulster, “Poster designs in the past have run the gamut from classically artistic to hilarious. Every age and experience level can compete on a level playing field.” Three generations of Johnson’s family participated in last year’s derby, with his grandson, Levi Cruz, portraying cultural icon Pee Wee Herman, and Johnson in his own Deluxe Derby Mobile, featuring a mix of mechanical parts and a large derby hat as roof.”
