Art in the Loft Closing Reception

Melissa Dvozenja-Thomas, Executive Director, Arts Mid-Hudson

November is a season of gratitude—a time to raise a glass to all that is good and count our blessings. As the days grow shorter, we come together to reflect on the year, celebrate our achievements, and appreciate the people and moments that matter most. So let’s raise a glass to local creativity at the Art in the Loft Closing Reception, this year’s festive finale co-presented by Arts Mid-Hudson and Millbrook Vineyards & Winery on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM. Held in the winery’s scenic loft gallery, the annual celebration brings together artists, wine lovers, and neighbors for an afternoon of art, live music, and exceptional Hudson Valley wine—all culminating in the unveiling of the winning artwork that will become the next Millbrook Vineyards & Winery wine label.

Now in its 2025 season, Art in the Loft has transformed the winery’s airy upper gallery into a vibrant showcase of regional talent. Throughout the season, visitors explored a curated selection of works that reflect the depth and diversity of the Hudson Valley arts scene. The closing reception is both a toast to the exhibiting artists and an exciting moment of anticipation: which piece will be chosen for the new Millbrook wine label? The reveal has become a tradition, celebrating the intersection of fine art and fine wine while spotlighting a local artist whose work will reach audiences well beyond the gallery.

Some of the exhibiting artists include Harriett Foreman Barrett, whose “Through the Looking Glass II” explores the sacred bond between body and soul, interlacing human limbs into dynamic, swirling compositions that seem to defy gravity. “Marion” by Mari Keeler Cornwell is inspired by the women who shaped her. Cornwell is currently focused on a series celebrating female strength and resilience. Her current work amplifies women’s voices, portraying not just their external beauty but the inner strength that unites them. Through her brushwork, she creates a vision of tenacity and empowerment, capturing the essence of womanhood.

Victor Messick’s piece, “Hudson Southbound And The Ghost of Bannerman Island,” utilizes his camera lens to view the world through the eyes of a plein air painter, seeking both the abstract and conventional in the natural world. “The Clouds” by Eileen Stodut expands the viewer’s experience of gazing at a rolling field filled with vines. Enhancing the color and vividness of the clouds that illuminate the field in a warm, whimsical light.

Guests can expect live jazz by Laura Evans and Chris Macchia, setting the tone, providing an elegant soundtrack for browsing the art and mingling with artists and fellow patrons. Hors d’oeuvres by Simply Gourmet will complement the winery’s selections, offering a refined tasting experience in one of the Hudson Valley’s most picturesque settings. Whether you’re a longtime supporter of the arts, an avid wine enthusiast, or simply looking for a memorable afternoon out, the closing reception promises an engaging blend of culture and community.
