Nestor Madalengoitia was born in Lima, Peru, and grew up in the mountain village of Cajabamba, in the north of the country. He moved to Lima at age 17 to study art,  and later to pursue a degree in painting at the University Catolica de Peru. Madalengoitia  moved to New York 1986 and to the Hudson Valley in 1994, and subsequently received a BFA degree from the University of New York at New Paltz. During Madalengoitia’s 38 year career in the US, his works have been seen in numerous exhibitions and collections in New York City, the Hudson Valley, South Korea, and Lima Peru, and has pieces in collections such as the Samuel Dorsky Museum (purchase prize 2018), Hudson Valley MOCA and the Banco Central de Reserva Museum in Lima. Peru. Madalengoitia’s work can also be seen in many public murals locally, as well as in Washington DC, Sussex Canada, the Florida Keys, and Lima Peru, He has also shared his artistic skills with hundreds of local students during arts-in-education workshops. Madalengoitia has been a recipient of the Dutchess County Executive Arts Award in three different categories - Individual Artist, “Artivist”, and Arts-in-Education. Currently, he lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York.
